Objectives

  • provide a stimulating studio practice and learning environment in visual arts and creative expression based in person-centred, self directive processes
  • progress the self awareness, creative capabilities and personal well being of each participant through the development of art making abilities and creative thinking
  • continue to conceive and pilot, person-centred projects covering a range of visual arts learning, creative development and art therapy content matter; and through qualitative research and documentation build a substantial body of work that has application to further learning and other contexts within the wider community
  • to continue to develop and research new concepts, modalities and contexts progressing our understanding of creative process and creative thinking as fundamental cornerstones in human development
  • recognise the importance of creative community; to foster and grow community both for the SCCD artists and for the public with which it interfaces
  • through an inclusive environment bring about a greater awareness and appreciation of diverse life experience and so positively contribute to community integration and social change
  • secure regular community based exhibition / installation opportunities to raise the profile of our artists – further, to grow the positioning of such work within mainstream contemporary art contexts building artistic credibility and critical recognition
  • grow a greater visibility and understanding of our work – to raise the profile, recognition and resource for the ongoing delivery of SCCD’s activities

Underpinning these objectives is the understanding that the process of making art, the act of expressing oneself creatively, and the critical thinking and intuiting inherent in artistic perception are in themselves a path of self development; art making takes ‘the maker’ on a journey of self discovery and personal growth. This personal contribution makes for a more creative, productive, harmonious community.
